Sharing My Garden with Hollywoodland’s Deer

By Rose Ware

The peaceful green serenity is what attracted me to Hollywoodland over 32 years ago. I’ve lived here since 1994 and I know that being surrounded by trees and nature is not only good for your mind but it’s good for your health. It might even  be better than therapy.

Every year for the last four years a small family of deer have come on schedule in July and August when the berries are ripe and falling A mother, her two year old (with the antler buds)this year a newborn  fawn (with the spots) and either three older daughters or three sisters. Last year to my delight the stag came into the yard and I think mated with all of them. He was here for a few days and nights.  This year I’ve had two stags!! I was a bit worried they might clash because it is mating season and they are in rut but they seemed to just casually wander and more interested on gorging themselves on the berries. Then they sit relaxing in the bushes of my garden.

I really feel lucky to share my garden with these beautiful beings. I hope you enjoy this rare photo of one of them
