More Filming at the Hollywood Sign?

The Hollywood Chamber is considering expanded use of the landmark — and Hollywoodland sits directly below it.

At the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce’s October 14 Hollywood Next Economic Development Summit, Chamber President and CEO Ron Frierson discussed strengthening Hollywood’s film economy and, according to Beverly Press, raised the possibility of expanding use of the Hollywood Sign for filming.

No formal proposal has been released, and the Chamber has not publicly defined what “expanded use” would mean.

For Hollywoodland, however, the question is far from theoretical.

Hollywood Sign-related filming can involve Lake Hollywood Park, Canyon Lake Drive, Mulholland Highway and the Deronda access area — locations immediately adjacent to the residential community beneath the Sign.

Earlier this year, an approved Hollywood Sign production used Lake Hollywood Park as a support location while aerial filming took place. The operation required traffic-control personnel, park staff and public-safety coordination at several nearby intersections.

FilmLA records reviewed by HHA also show repeated filming activity during 2026 throughout the Hollywoodland area and around Lake Hollywood Park, including productions on Mulholland, Beachwood, Woodhaven, Rodgerton, Belden and Canyon Lake Drive.

The Hollywood Chamber handles commercial licensing involving the Sign, while physical filming on City property requires separate approvals through the City and FilmLA.

What has not yet been explained is whether “expanded filming” could mean more productions at the Sign itself, more frequent use of Lake Hollywood Park or Deronda, additional aerial filming, nighttime activity, lighting or simply broader commercial licensing.

Until details are released, that remains an open question.

The Hollywood Sign may be one of the world’s most recognizable landmarks.

Hollywoodland is the neighborhood living directly beneath it.
