Proposal to Update Los Angeles Zoning Rules

What Is Missing Middle LA?

Los Angeles City Planning has scheduled a virtual public hearing on the proposed Missing Middle LA Program, which is a citywide initiative to update Los Angeles zoning rules for smaller-scale housing.

According to City Planning, the proposal includes zoning-code amendments related to Accessory Dwelling Units, SB 9 projects, starter homes, small lot subdivisions, ministerial subdivision procedures, separate sale of ADUs, and related objective development and design standards.

Why Residents May Want to Review the Proposed Rules

Because Hollywoodland is a hillside community with narrow roads, fire-access concerns, evacuation constraints, limited parking, and sensitive hillside conditions, residents may wish to review how the proposed rules could apply to hillside neighborhoods.

Residents concerned about ADUs, lot splits, starter homes, small lot subdivisions, ministerial approvals, fire access, evacuation routes, parking, slope conditions, or Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone properties may wish to attend the virtual hearing or submit written comments.
