Monthly HHA Membership Update
November 2025
Dear HHA Members,
We want to share our gratitude with you, at the start of the holiday season.
We are grateful for the beauty and history of Hollywoodland, even if this does attract the whole world to our neighborhood; for the rainfall that gives us hope for fire containment; and for the community we form.
With that in mind, we will be volunteering this Thanksgiving, and invite everyone to consider two local organizations that are welcoming volunteers and donations:
Los Angeles Regional Food Bank
Here are three dates for your calendars:
On December 2nd there is a hearing in City Hall (4:30 pm) about the appeal from members of our community who oppose the design of a proposed spec development on Flagmoor/Belden. If you wish to add your support to this appeal, please let us know and we will connect you to the leaders of this initiative.
The HHA will be hosting a holiday event in the Village Green on Saturday December 20th. More information on time and format for this celebration will be sent out in advance.
The HHA’s Annual General Meeting will take place on Tuesday January 27th in the evening, at Besant Lodge. At this meeting, Directors will provide members with a review of work done on behalf of our community in 2025, address questions and discuss 2026 priorities and also elect our 2026 Board of Directors. If you are interested in joining the HHA Board of Directors, please let us know. We are actively recruiting and will be sending out further information soon, but do contact us any time to find out more.
Life in the Hills – Safety Updates
A fire safety webinar is now available HERE, following a community meeting on this topic earlier this month. We invite you to have a listen and learn about mitigation steps we can all take. Thank you to Justin Burnett for this important information.
While the rains may help us relax a bit right now, it’s important never to forget that fire remains a constant threat in Hollywoodland. We encourage everyone to keep their properties clean of dead leaves and any build up that can provide fuel for embers. Now is a good time to clear any debris from the recent storm.
We also want to draw everyone’s attention to the Zone 0 regulations (Zone Zero) mandating the creation of an ember-resistant zone within five feet of structures in designated high fire hazard areas like ours. The HHA aims to help clarify the facts around this topic. We recognize this has become a highly charged conversation. Our current focus continues to be on ensuring homeowners in Hollywoodland have the information they need to take responsibility for fire mitigation and safety of their properties. We are a community that shares risk, so it’s important to consider what we can do for ourselves and how our collective actions can significantly increase our resilience. We will provide relevant updates via our website and these newsletters as the situation evolves. You can find a Q&A for reference HERE.
Maintenance of our historic neighborhood – The Body Snatcher’s Stairs
Hollywoodland has been a location in many movies and TV shows, and continues to be today. The 1956 Sci-Fi classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers is one of our favorites. It features scenes filmed on the stairs in Hollywoodland. These now historic features are fragile and in disrepair, and have recently been cared for by Hollywoodlander Soren Kerk who has devoted many hours to take the lead with cleaning and weeding these numerous steps. Thank you Soren!
Safety tips of the month
Watch the Fire Safe webinar.
Check that your fire alarms have working batteries and if connected to the power mains test them regularly.
