Progress in 2025 & Priorities for 2026

Traffic Mitigation Efforts This past year, we made meaningful strides in addressing neighborhood traffic challenges. From collecting data and presenting solutions to CD4, to collaborating with neighboring communities, we’ve been working hard to improve coordination with city officials and reduce the congestion caused by visitors trying to access the sign.

Special thanks to Mike Paolini, Jeff Swofford, and Michael Halloren for the countless hours spent meeting with CD4 and advocating for a DOT traffic plan. This work will continue in 2026, and we welcome additional volunteers to join the team.

Fire Safety & Firewise Certification Fire remains the number one safety threat to our neighborhood. In 2025, Hollywoodland joined the Hollywood Hills Firesafe Council. As part of this effort, we launched a dedicated website focused on home hardening and fire education resources.

We’ve also completed our initial assessment toward becoming a Firewise Community. Once certification is achieved, residents may be eligible for insurance discounts (depending on carrier). For example, the California Fair Plan offers a 10% discount for Firewise communities.

The Firesafe Council and HHA are committed to helping residents better prepare their homes to withstand ember storms and wildfire risk. If you’d like to discuss your home’s resilience or have questions, please feel free to reach out.

New Security Cameras at the Village Gates After many years with the same camera system, HHA will be installing updated cameras at the historic gates. The new system will help provide traffic data and assist authorities with vehicle or individual identification if crimes occur. Since most traffic enters through the gates, this upgrade is an important step toward improving neighborhood safety.

Block Captain Program & Emergency Preparedness

We’re launching a Block Captain program to strengthen communication and preparedness across Hollywoodland. With so many homes in our community, having localized leadership will be essential in emergencies.

If you’re interested in serving as a Block Captain, please reach out. We’ll be focusing on evacuation planning, emergency communication, and preparedness coordination. And if you haven’t already, please consider joining the neighborhood WhatsApp group—it has proven to be one of the fastest and most reliable information sources during emergencies.

Design Review Board Advocacy

The HHA has been actively pushing the City to reinstate the Design Review Board. Years ago, members helped develop the Hollywood Specific Plan to ensure new construction respects the unique safety and congestion challenges of our neighborhood.

With narrow roads and heightened fire risk, thoughtful development is critical. The Design Review Board plays a vital role in preserving the character and safety of Hollywoodland.

Neighborhood Preservation Projects

We will also continue working with local authorities to maintain the Historic Stairs and upgrade fencing along Mulholland toward Canyon Lake.

Building Community in 2026

One of the best parts of living in Hollywoodland is the incredible mix of creative, interesting, and welcoming neighbors. Having lived in many parts of Los Angeles, I can honestly say this is one of the friendliest communities I’ve experienced.

We want to celebrate that. Block party? Neighborhood happy hour? Bowling league? Kids’ playdates? We’re planning new events this year and would love your help organizing—or simply your participation. More details coming soon!

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to address the important issues facing our neighborhood and to strengthen our sense of community.

Warmly,

Justin Burnett President, Hollywoodland Homeowners Association
