Celebrate the 4th of July With Fireworks Awareness

Fourth of July Preparations Are in Full Swing

Cities across Los Angeles County are getting ready for concerts, parades, and fireworks to celebrate America’s Independence Day.

From dazzling drone shows to waterfront festivities, there are countless ways to celebrate—safely.

Think About Your Neighbors

Yes, fireworks are tradition. But before lighting one yourself, consider this:

  • 🐶 Pets often flee in terror—many are never found

  • 🪖 Combat veterans may suffer traumatic flashbacks

  • 👵 Elderly neighbors can become confused or overwhelmed

  • 👶 Babies and children may be terrified, or experience hearing pain

Fireworks Do Not Belong in Hollywoodland

Fireworks and Historic Preservation Overlay Zones (HPOZs) are a dangerous mix. Neighborhoods like Hollywoodland are filled with century-old homes, dense canyons, and limited access roads—many of which weren’t built for today’s volume of traffic or emergency response.

These areas are not only architecturally significant—
they’re extraordinarily vulnerable to fire.

Even “safe and sane” fireworks can ignite dry brush, overwhelm outdated infrastructure, and put entire blocks of historic homes—and lives—at risk.

Choosing a public fireworks show isn’t just courteous. In places like ours, it’s essential.
