Reported Copper Wire Theft: Streetlight & Communications Outages in Hollywoodland
Assembly member Mark González joins local leaders and community advocates to call for action on AB 1941 and stronger enforcement against organized copper wire theft LINK
Streetlight outages
Neighborhood reports link copper-wire theft to widespread streetlight outages in Hollywoodland. Volunteers have cataloged approximately 70 dark streetlights, although the cause of each outage has not been independently confirmed.
Telephone and internet interruptions
Copper theft has also reportedly disrupted internet service at Beachwood Market and affected other AT&T DSL customers in the neighborhood. Witnesses reported suspected wire theft from a nearby manhole and notified police and AT&T. Telephone outages have also been reported, but their connection to the thefts remains unconfirmed.
Who to call
Suspected theft in progress or immediate danger: 911
Move to a safe location and give the dispatcher the exact location and a description of what you are observing. Do not confront or follow anyone. Record vehicle information only if you can do so safely.
Past theft or non-emergency police assistance: LAPD — 877-275-5273
Explain when and where the incident occurred, describe what you observed, and ask how to submit photographs or video. Request a report or incident number when available.

AT&T home telephone or internet outages: 800-288-2020
Call from a working telephone. Give your service address, explain whether your telephone, internet or both are affected, and state when service stopped.
Request a repair-ticket number, the known cause and an estimated restoration date. Ask about temporary service options and any applicable outage credit. Retain written updates if the repair estimate changes.
AT&T home-phone repair support · AT&T internet support
Customers of other telephone or internet companies should contact their own provider.
Stay safe and keep records
Do not touch exposed wires, enter manholes, move utility covers or attempt repairs. Keep children and pets away from damaged equipment.
If your home telephone is unavailable, arrange access to a working phone for essential calls. If an alarm or medical-alert device depends on the affected connection, contact its provider to confirm whether it remains operational and ask about backup options.
A police report does not replace a repair request. Report suspected theft to police and submit a separate repair request to the City or your service provider.
Dated observations, photographs taken safely and service-ticket numbers will help document the problem and support follow-up. Residents still need answers about the causes of individual outages, restoration schedules and measures to protect repaired equipment.
Local information is based on neighborhood correspondence dated September 8 and 17, 2026, and a direct resident report.
