Griffith Park After Dark

By day, Griffith Park is familiar ground.

After dark, it becomes something else entirely.

The Los Angeles Haunted Hayride returns with an immersive night of shadow, fog, theatrical sets and carefully staged scares woven into the landscape of the park.

At the center of it all is the hayride itself — a slow journey through the darkness, where the scenery shifts, the atmosphere thickens and the line between spectacle and surprise becomes increasingly hard to see.

City Takes a Harder Look at License-Plate Surveillance

Los Angeles is taking another look at how automatic license-plate reader technology should be used—and what safeguards should be in place before a new system is deployed.

On October 20, the Los Angeles City Council’s Public Safety Committee voted to recommend a veto of LAPD’s proposed Axon automatic license-plate reader pilot program. The action follows the City Council’s earlier October 6 vote to assert jurisdiction over the proposal and pause its implementation while Council members examined it more closely.
